A World of Advantages with Canon’s Technology

DIGIC 4 Image Processor has evolved Face Detection Technology that tracks the faces of moving subjects and lets the shooter enter the frame seamlessly with the Face Detection Self-Timer.

DIGIC 4 Image Processor
Canon’s most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, delivers evolved Face Detection Technology that keeps every face in every photo looking its very best. The technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 image processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

A Face Detection Self-Timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments. For instance, to include the photographer’s face in a group shot, there’s no need to rush in. Just put the camera on a stand or tripod, specify Face Detection Self-Timer, and the camera will wait for the photographer’s face to get on-camera before it takes the shot. Motion Detection tracks moving subjects in a much larger range--allowing you to wait for the perfect shot without refocusing.

Intelligent Contrast Correction
DIGIC 4 also makes possible the i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition. The PowerShot D10 can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated.

Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.
1) Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
2) The PowerShot D10 can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

Life doesn’t give you second chances to capture special times. That’s why the PowerShot D10 features ISO 1600 setting that reduces the effects of camera shake and sharpens subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility. ISO can be expanded to 3200 when you select ISO 3200 Special Scene mode.

12.1 megapixels, plus 3x optical zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer
With the PowerShot D10, dramatic, personal pictures have never been easier to shoot and share. This 12.1-megapixel camera lets you create impressively large photos of family and friends you’ll be proud to display. The high-resolution images taken by the D10 can be enlarged up to 13 x 19 inches.

Canon PowerShot digital camera highlights
The PowerShot D10 has a 3x optical zoom that gives you the power to shoot distant subjects with razor-sharp precision and stunning lifelike color.

The PowerShot D10 is equipped with Canon’s acclaimed Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that automatically detects and corrects camera shake--one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you’ll be proud to shoot and share. And Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer Technology is so convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.

Blink Detection
Nothing ruins a great picture more than having your subjects’ eyes closed. That’s why the PowerShot D10 is equipped with Blink Detection. If closed eyes are detected, a "blink warning" icon appears for 3 seconds, allowing you to retake the shot before your subject or subjects move on. Blink Detection provides you with extra assurance when capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments like planting the flag at the summit of the mountain.

Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings
Just set the Canon PowerShot D10 to Smart AUTO and you’re ready for maximum enjoyment from your picture taking every time. It’s a relaxing and satisfying way to shoot because you can completely concentrate on your subject knowing that the camera has the technical details covered. Advanced Canon technology intelligently analyzes your situation and shooting conditions. Then it automatically selects an appropriate setting from 18 specially defined settings. So whether you’re photographing flowers, a captivating sunset, or your friends at the park, you can be confident that you’re getting dramatic, memorable images.

4Good Product but has some issues - can't be your only cameraJul 28, 2010
The Canon D10 malfunctioned once with the error message of "Lens Error". We read some reviews online that had the same problem. Some of the reviewers returned the product while others just waited for the error to disappear. Since this is not our only camera, we just waited till the next day. We removed the battery overnight. The next day we replaced the battery and it worked. We have not gotten that error message again but we rarely use it. I hope it works when we need it to take that breath-taking picture :)

4A good camera for the moneyJul 28, 2010
I've had this camera for a year. Bought it last year before going in vacation in Costa Rica, to ensure that I can get some pictures in the water or anywhere where and when I couldn't use my Canon Digital SLR. I have waited to review it until I used it enough times and in different conditions. It has held well on dry land and in water. The quality of the pictures is very good and it is very easy to use. I have taken pictures in the ocean, I went white water rafting with it, stayed in torrential rain and taken pictures, even zip-lined with it! While rafting some really white waters I had the camera in a tiny camera bag secured across my body. I fell in the water and I had no worries that my camera will die before I get back on my tube. I dropped it a few times and it's fine. The screen is actually the most exposed to shock and I have been trying to be careful about that. The lens are recessed so they are somehow protected. I have other Canon cameras and that is one reason I went with this camera. It had most of the features I wanted, plus a movie mode. The movies are decent quality, even in a dark, with smoke-effects party hall, and good sound. I even recorded small videos at a concert hall in NYC, and I was amazed at the clarity of the sound.
I take it everywhere I think I might have a chance to get some shots and don't want to lug around the backpack with the big 'guns'. It fits in a pocket or a woman's purse (not tote) with no problem.
PROs: stylish, easy to use and carry around, very user-friendly, amazing picture and good video quality, even in water. It also rotates the image on the screen, like the Ipod.
CONs: screen protection is recommended, sometimes when I put it in the water and then took it out the lens 'sweated' for a few minutes, when trying to take pictures in bright sun, with the sun reflecting in the screen, the image completely blacks.
It is by far not as fast as a DSLR, even with a fast card in. It takes a few seconds longer until it 'charges' again for the next shot, even when not using the flash. At night, it's better used with a tripod or have very steady hands. The image will come out shaken. During the day light this doesn't seem to be a problem, but the IS doesn't seem to be working very well with the night settings.
I like this camera and I recommend it. It serves the purpose it was made for at a decent price.

5Fantastic Shutter Speed!Jul 26, 2010
I bought this camera back in Oct. 2009 and just barely got around to using it because I had another camera. I finally pulled it out for use during a pool party. The shutter speed is sooooo fast, it made me want to cry almost. I could get action shots of people driving and the water splashing, and everything was caught perfectly without any action blurs.
And water splashed onto the camera with no problems either. I was tempted to just submerge the camera too but never got around to it. This camera is awesome!!! I will update my review once I use it more and use more of the features too.

5Terrific for Sand Storms, too!!Jul 26, 2010
I know this is sold as a waterproof camera. But, that's the tip of the proverbial iceburg. We were in the Atacama desert, in a terrific sand storm. In about ten seconds our G11 was grinding (literally) to a stop. This doesn't affect my view of the G11 ... a hurricane-force sandstorm is a bad environment for most any camera. But, the D10 was perfectly happy. We can get it wet, we can get it filthy. Just run it under the tap when we're done! It's become our new all-purpose pocket camera. We *love* it!!!

2Failed after 1 week, filled with waterJul 25, 2010
This was such a wonderful performer for the first week of use that I felt like I'd lost a friend when the seals failed and the camera flooded with water in the second week. The fact that it happened during a vacation in French Polynesia, that I'd saved for for 2 years and built around snorkeling photography, was enough to sour me on this camera and I could not recommend it. It is one of 3 underwater cameras that I've purchased (the other two are Pentax and one of those also flooded) and FEELS better built than the other 2.

I believe the weakness is in the control buttons -- in my experience you CANNOT apply any real pressure to the buttons and must use the absolute minimum pressure necessary to trigger the shutter, change menu functions, etc. My camera failed as I excitedly mashed the shutter button when a Moray eel popped out of a hole in front of me, in less than 5 feet of water just off Tatakoto Atoll in FP. When I say "mashed", I mean the amount of pressure you'd apply to the button on a DSLR like a Nikon D70 -- certainly in no way an abusive or excessive amount of pressure. Just a "Hey! Oh, I gotta get this WOW!" amount of pressure from that little adrenaline burst that tells you you're taking a winning photograph. In my situation, there was a little flicker of the view screen on the back of the camera, and then darkness. When I surfaced, there was a sickening spread of cloudy water growing across the INSIDE of the rear-body display. Later, looking at the front of the camera, I noticed a dirty spread of water/slime across the INSIDE of the lens.

I really, really hate returning this camera but back it must go before the 30 day Amazon return policy expires. It's just too expensive to fail so easily. I'm going to take the recommendation of [...] (who gave this camera a good review in the single-body category) and buy a normal digital camera and a separate waterproof case, on the theory that the small amount of water that destroyed the Canon D10 would possibly be noticeable as a leak in the separate case and give me at least a CHANCE of saving my camera by quickly surfacing.
