5Best camera under $200Aug 14, 2010
By Mr. Natural "Randy"
I got a Z2000 six weeks ago and have already filled 10GB of memory with the highest res shots and HD video. I used it on a 3-wk vacation in the Tetons, Yellowstone, and Cody, WY. It was always around my neck as I drove, hiked, and biked, and it proved as tough as it's predecessor (I've used a Casio S600 for over five years, mostly on mountain biking trips in the Alps, taking thousands of shots and videos with it, and, though it looks like it's been in a war, it still works like new!).

This camera is almost as small and light as the S600, and just as easy to use even though it has a good number of new features. The wide angle lens (26mm), the 5x optical zoom, and the HD video were the main reasons I bought it. The fotos and videos are great, but you use up memory in a hurry at 14mp and with HD video, so you'll need 4gb or 8gb SD cards (at least two), preferably class 4 or 6 SDHC type for speed. Unless you need poster sized prints, you can set the resolution to 6mb or so, which is fine for 8x10 prints, and you'll get way more shots per SD card.

One new feature I really loved is the "oil painting" setting. This lets you take a shot looking (a bit) like Van Gogh may have painted it. The watercolor and crayon settings are worthless, though. I hope Casio fixes these and provides a download for them soon.

I went back and forth between the Z2000 and the new Casio H15, and chose the Z2000 for the smaller size and lighter weight since it hangs around my neck. My companion on the trip had just bought the H15, and it was a surprise to both of us. It has a wider lens (24mm), a 10x optical zoom, and even more features. It also has the "oil painting" mode. We were both amazed at the quality of his photos. On top of that, the H15 LCD screen is TWICE the resolution of the Z2000's (both are 3" in size), and it's SUPERB. And his flash had an incredible range. And his battery lasts twice as long (though the Z2000 is no slouch).

So now I wish I'd bought the H15. It is about $85 more than the Z2000, so I'd say that if size or cost (or color) is an issue, get the Z2000. You'll love it. Otherwise, go for the H15 and be blown away by what you can do with it. And don't forget the neck cord. I've never dropped a camera (or cell phone or monocular) since I've been using these cords (for over 15 years of mountain biking). Here's a good cord on Amazon: Targus Digital TGK-NS Digital Camera Neck Strap.

5Fantastic Digital CameraJul 10, 2010

I bought this 14 megapixel point and shoot digital camera about a month ago and have been playing with it since then. It is the fifth Casio I have owned (upgraded with each new generation) and have always been thrilled with the results. This camera is no different. Full of nice features it's easy to use and the images are stunning. I would highly recommend this camera.

5Six Stars?Nov 01, 2010

What a great camera! I wished I had bought it sooner. Sadly, I've been clinging to my old Cannon Powershot s2. I brought the Canon on a vacation to New Hampshire last year and my daughter brought her much less expensive Casio Elixm. Her photos blew mine away! Motion shots out the window at 60 miles an hour came out great and my still photos were all out of focus. Poor me. Can't get that vacation back. Anyway, I've had my new Elixm for a couple of months and it has yet to disappoint. I had to take photos of my dog's leg after surgery and email to Vet (3 hours away) and he said they were the best photos he had seen... seriously! (I used the Flower preset for close up). I highly recommend this camera!!! Worth every penny and then some!

4A decent cameraDec 10, 2010

The Casio Z2000 is one of the better compact cameras currently available. I would say it is a large ultra compact or a small regular compact. Although it is a good camera, it is not as good as last years Casio S12. When I say not as good, I am referring to picture quality. I look at noise, detail, color, speed, in that order. The outdoor shots are very good, the indoor shots have a bit more noise and does not do as good of a job on skin tone as the S12 does. Both cameras are super fast. If you buy this camera, that is one thing you will love. It will focus and shoot about as fast as you can depress the shutter button. This is great for baby shots when you really need that picture taken. The Z2000 does just a few things better than the S12. It will shoot 4 pictures with flash in a second, which is very cool, although that setting gives 2MP pictures but still nice. The Z2000 also has a much better zoom and it works great with the IS.
The Z2000 has HD 720p video at 30fps with IS, although it is hard to believe that the S12 shoots better video without IS and only 24fps, mostly because of lower noise in the indoor videos.
Both cameras have a large 2.8 aperture, so I think the extra glass required for the longer zoom is probably the culprit of why the S12 is a bit better.
I consider Casio as the best compact camera company in the current market. They seem to come out with new products sooner and their cameras are very durable, I have one with 7000 pictures taken plus a ton of video hours.
Overall you cannot go wrong with the Casio Z2000. I would suggest buying it over any other compact camera, unless you can get your hands on one of the last remaining Casio S12 in new condition before they all sell out.
