Regrets....had I knowJul 11, 2010 The lack of battery life is a huge problem. Countless lost photos is heartbreaking. Had I know, I would have never purchased this camera. In the process of researching a different digital camera.
Black blob has appeared on viewer screen of this NEW camera!Jun 14, 2010 Only weeks after receiving this camera, a black blob about 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch wide has appeared on the inside of the viewing screen (meaning, it's not on the outside surface). It does appear on the print-outs, but it definitely interferes with the viewing, and I am fearful it may GROW LARGER! I did not drop the camera, or anything else untoward, to cause this: it just appeared one day. Would really like to have this camera replaced!
Broke down after 4 daysMay 26, 2010 I agree with all of the comments on battery life. More troublesome, however, is that the camera completely died after just 4 days, 10 pictures, and 3 battery changes... It will not respond or turn on, and the lens is stuck in the open position. The camera is a complete lemon.
A Solid Digital Camera.Apr 04, 2010 This FE-310 Model Camera, built by Olympus, a company in the photographic equipment industry that has always held up to a high degree of quality and durability, is easier to use than the 2 previous digital cameras that I've owned, and for the price(* especially at used prices) to get this 5X ZOOM LENSE power at that low price is a very good bargain.
On the subject of this camera's BATTERY USAGE, that at least one previous reviewer has raised, it's better than the 2 other digital cameras that I had before in that it does NOT quickly "EAT" them up, and please also keep in mind that this camera uses the "everyday," and cheaper, easier-to-find "AA" Alkaline etcetera batteries, unlike the far more EXPENS$IVE CR-2 and CR123 Camera/Photo Battteries that I've had to use on two other cameras.
So, given my experience with previous digital cameras(one a Kodak 5.0 megapixel, the other a Vivitar model camera)which both DID actually "EAT" up their batteries, this one has had GOOD to Very good battery life, from my experiences(* only shot 2 xD cards through it, NOT a "huge amount of experience" with the camera, I will admit), so for the more circumspect, I would say that this Olympus camera offers very much, SATISFACTORY battery life, in comparison to other/earlier digital cameras. I WOULD always bring along at least 1-2 extra pairs of back-up "AA" batteries, however, on just about any shoot where you need to travel even a short distance from "modern," ah-hem, "Civilization".
As for photo-picture quality, this Olympus has really delivered for me, with very high quality digital photos, be they online or printed-out through my Canon Photo Printer, and going by friends' digital photos that's not just due to my present Olympus FE-310 having the higher(8.0 Megapixels) megapixel performance rating.
Poor battery lifeDec 16, 2009 Don't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole, battery life is nil. From various issues I have seen on the web it is a design issue. Basically the only batteries I can get to work are the expensive lithium ones and then if you leave then it the discharge over a couple of months of non use.
Was going to let my girls play with it but I spend to much on batteries.
