Being waterproof down to 1.5 m (5 feet), the CA9 gives you the freedom to shoot the action in any weather and in any season, whether it's a winter sport, a marine sport, or just a rainy day. Furthermore, it employs the advanced compression technology of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, a video format that's easy to handleon your PC and handy for web applications. The CA9 records high-definition 720p video in a waterproof body. As well as being a high-definition video camera, the CA9 also captures realistic 9-megapixel photos just like those taken with a dedicated digital camera. It can even record higher-resolution images at up to 12 megapixels, using real-time pixel-interpolation technology*3. Also, thanks to the reverse sequential shooting function, there's less chance of missing a photo opportunity. This function continues to load images as long as the Photo button is kept pressed down, and once your finger is released, the most recently loaded images are recorded onto the SD card Thanks to the ISO-standard MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, video files are as easy to handle as photo images shot with a regular digital camera. It's quick and easy to save files on a PC and upload them onto a web page to share with friends and family. | | | Features: | |

Good image quality, but a limited device.Jul 19, 2010
By Reader/Viewer Positives: The image quality of this camera is very good, both for video and photos (with and without the flash). I was surprised that images from such a cheap camera looked so good. I bought the camera because I wanted some underwater footage for an art project, and I'm happy with the videos I made in the sea. Now that the project is finished I will mainly use the camera for photos at parties or on holiday because it's very portable and simple to use.
Negatives: It can be difficult to use the camera outside because sunlight makes the screen practically invisible. Be aware when using it at the beach, sand gets everywhere including into the battery compartment and even the lens. In my case the sand came out after washing the camera and using a small brush when it was dry. As this is a waterproof camera the sealing means that you can only run it from battery power (about 1 hour), you can't plug in an external mic, etc. The sound quality from the built in microphone is very poor (for me it's unusable, so I record sound separately when I need it).

Failed first time i used it. Sanyo couldnt care.Sep 08, 2011

Water leaked the first time I used it, rendering camera dead. But the real problem was Sanyo support. You cannot send them emails. You can only "post" to their web site (and you'll be ignored). 2 hrs to get them on the phone and then had to ship camera at my expense. response was water damage not covered by warranty. THIS ON A WATERPROOF CAMERA !!! I wrote snail mail to complain. No response.
So buy at your own risk. If it fails you, you are on your own. You'd be better off buying second hand on ebay. You dont get warranty support that way either but hey, you are no worse off. Better yet, buy another brand.

Caveat Emptor Buyer BewareMay 25, 2011
By Huck Finn Purchased the Sanyo Xacti VCP-CA9 camera in April of 2010 thinking it would be ideal for summertime trips to the pool, lake, boating ect...and it was, worked great until it died on me exactly 10 days after the 1 year warranty expired in May 2011. After a nightmare trying to contacting Sanyo customer care I finally got through to them via their Canadian customer care. They gave me info to Skokie TV in IL who specialize in Xacti repairs. After charging me a $40 diagnosis fee they told me the "so and so joint" that connects the LCD to the camera needed to be replaced. I was told this goes out quite frequently on these models and repairs would cost $250, which is more than I paid for the camera brand new, so I declined to fix it. After looking around and reading about others similar experiences this seems to be the norm for this camera. It's a great concept, but a lemon that's basically guaranteed to go out within a year of use. I will be sticking to Sony or Kodak for the rest of my camera purchases, never had a major issue with either of their cameras so soon after purchasing and in the event that anything went wrong they always made it right and have never gouged me on repairs

Beware of recommended maintenanceJun 28, 2011
By Rachel Mcgowan I've had this camera for over a year and, overall, I've been pretty happy with it. Video quality is good and with a 16GB SD card (purchased separately) space has never been an issue. Zoom level is limited, but adequate. Portability is good. Outside pictures come out very well with the 9 megapixel camera, but inside flash photos are horrible. Red eye, image quality and lighting are totally unacceptable. It's better to just shoot video and then capture still frames to produce photos from.
Main reason I'm posting now is to inform potential buyers of the Sanyo Recommended Maintenance on the waterproof seals for this camera (and probably any Sanyo camera similar to it). Sanyo recommends these cameras be sent in once a year to have the seals replaced. I was just quoted a total of $140 to have this service completed...on a working camera with no other issues or service required; just to replace the waterproof seals. I see now these cameras are only $149 new...almost makes it a throw-away.
Nothing to write home about...Dec 08, 2011
By Waruna I Well, I got this for some under ground work( I work in a mining company) and it did arrive as it said, but for some odd reason, it's not as impressing physically as it is on paper. Nothing major, nothing special, yet another camera. Nothing worth writing home about. Absolutely no "oooomph!"
