a great camera, takes pictures IN FOCUS!Dec 07, 2009 The number and type of features seems very straightforward and easy to use with this camera.
Unlike many "point and shoots", the DSC-W300 actually focuses quickly and accurately.
Light exposure is also done very well.
Sometimes Sony puts out cameras that don't do one of the above so well.
Case in point: DSC-W290.
It frequently takes pictures that are blurry, despite taking too long between the button press and the picture actually being taken (during which time it's supposed to be optimizing the focus, amongst other things). (By the time the picture finally does get taken, whatever you were hoping to capture is probably already over.)
Watch out for Sony's deep discounts on the DSC-W290, it's because relative to it's predecessor the DSC-W300 & some competitor's models, it's a lemon!
Sony!Nov 29, 2009 I think its the best to offer in MP yet on amazon, i was lucky enought to buy it, great price, excellent images taken, if you love photography may be you will be lucky enought to find it.
Great Item to BuySep 09, 2009 I am using this item for long time.... Good look, Light Weight, Good clarity of pictures... mostly I'm amazed with the 'Steady Shot' pictures, works well. Battery life is good.

Heartbroken over my SonyAug 24, 2009 I bought a DSC-W300 from Amazon in late April 2009, shortly before departing on an extended trip to China. I already had a 2001-vintage Sony digital camera that I'd enjoyed very much through the years, not to mention a Sony camcorder (Guess I'm partial to Sony). I figured a new camera was justfied by this rare trip abroad.
Here's what I liked best about it. Even in a padded fabric case, it fit easily in my pants pocket, where it was accessible with only the small delay required to pull it out and power it up. That felt very liberating, compared with having a larger device swinging uncomfortably and conspicuously on a strap around my neck.
I'd thought the abundance of megapixels would mean even crisper photos than my older Sony had taken, but in these early snaps with it, I often ended up with blurred or grainy photos. No doubt, that was due to my failure to use the right settings for the shot presenting itself. On the other hand, at least I got a picture. If I'd had a larger camera, it might not have been with me all the time.
The use of past tense above is due to the fact that my daughter left the camera on a table in a public place in Tianjin, China, and it disappeared. My reaction to having lost it has been visceral. Despite the problem with using it correctly, I had grown very much attached to that camera. I would have bought another already, but the price has jumped significantly. Even used models now go for more than I paid just a few months ago. I guess that's a sign of its popularity.
If this sounds like the kind of camera you can use, do buy it. But please keep it in your own custody. (If you happen to have an extra lying around that you aren't using, please contact me!)
Love my Sony Cybershot!Aug 24, 2009 I love my sony cybershot! I received this camera as a gift this past Christmas. It hasn't given me any problems. Pictures turn out amazing. My only complaint is when I upload photos to my computer, the camera doesn't seem to want to stay plugged in and so you have to be kind of careful. You can see some of my photos here:
